A Quick Overview of I’ll Meet You In Florence

I’ll Meet You In Florence by Angela Pearse is a romantic comedy about a girl who meets a musician while house sitting for a couple on vacation. She ends up helping him with his writer’s block on some lyrics he’s struggling with in his song writing. She leaves for Italy for another house sitting job and he ends up tracking her down to reconnect with her as she’s the solution to his writer’s block. They get to know each other in exploring Italy together, experience a lot of chemistry, but things get complicated as relationships from both of their pasts come back to haunt them.

My Impression

I finished this Book in about a day and absolutely loved it! I found it to be a bit slow in the beginning, there was quite a bit of build up before the two main characters meet and really started regularly interacting with each other, but I’m glad I waited it out because the wait was most definitely worth it.

Seth is a gothic musician who writes emo music. This instantly brought me back to 2008-2010 when I was a scene kid who used to listen to Hawthorne Heights, Panic! At The Disco, Marianas Trench, and all the more emo-ish rock bands of my high school era. Seth as a character I really enjoyed. He is introverted, but really down to earth and even quite mischievous and fun once you get to know him.

During my adult years, I relate more to Jenna. She’s creative, kind of awkward, often has foot-in-mouth moments and then realizes the embarrassment of the things she says or does during after the fact. Relating to her and seeing her get herself into very awkward scenarios was really relatable to me and gave me a good laugh, because I could totally see myself doing the same things! I enjoyed her internal monologue a lot as well during these moments.

Seth and Jenna come from two very different worlds and are an unlikely pair, yet, despite their differences, are really quite perfect for each other and makes their chemistry all the more powerful. They both bring new and exciting experiences into each others lives that likely wouldn’t have been experienced otherwise, and it works!

Something really unique about this book that I really enjoyed is that as the reader, I got to enjoy a taste of Italy. It really felt like I was there with them during their adventures through Florence. From climbing the stairs and seeing the view from Brunelleschi’s dome, to walking through Vasari Corridor, and many of the other places in-between. I haven’t travelled outside of Canada and the United States, but reading this book made me feel like I had and I learned a lot of really interesting things about Italy and it’s history in this book.

Both Jenna and Seth have history with other people, and during their adventure in Italy together, have the unfortunate circumstance of running into both of their exes. Jenna’s ex comes to Italy in attempts to win Jenna back after finding out she’s seeing someone, and Seth’s childhood friend/band photographer whom he’s had history with is passing through town to check on his music progress for his father during her own travels. The four of them end up getting together in a really awkward attempt to retrieve some highly sensitive photographs of Seth stored in Gabe’s (Jenna’s ex) phone. How did this happen? You’ll have to read to find out!

Conclusion

I’ll Meet You In Florence is a really refreshing romcom that lets you relive the feelings of falling in love with someone, experience some of the magnificent history of Italy, and enjoy a little drama. And if you enjoy a little smut… or maybe a lot of smut, you’ll definitely enjoy reading I’ll Meet You In Florence!
