Raised in Hell. Living in Buffalo. And on the verge of accidentally destroying both realms…

Dark Angel and actuary Evangeline Thayer hates taking unnecessary risks, but she knows becoming human will be worth it. All the creatures in Hell have bullied her about her negligible ‘power’ her whole life. And don’t get her started on why she has wings if she can’t even fly?!? She just needs a teensy bit of help with removing her power…which is where a very hot, very flirty, and absolutely infuriating Nephilim comes in.

Half-angel Gideon Durand has been fighting demons a long time, but he’s never heard of a dark angel. Least of all one this gorgeous, stubborn, and with the power to completely nullify evil. Maybe in Hell, that’s a weakness—but with an unknown evil on the loose and murdering Nephilim?—that’s a damned useful skill. So Gideon strikes a deal with Evangeline: he’ll scratch her wings…if she’ll scratch his.

Now good and evil are—temporarily—working together. And might even be having steamy fun…if it wasn’t for a rather inconvenient threat trying to unleash the apocalypse, once and for all.

Excerpt From Hell Of An Angel By Christi Barth

“I’m not—do you really not know?” The snippiness disappeared from her tone. “I assumed from the wings and all, even if you are only half-angel, that you’d be aware that Niagara Falls is one of the ferry’s stops.”

“Ferry to where?”

“Hell, of course. Charon, the River Styx, any of that ringing a bell?”

Gideon lived in Niagara Falls. Well, right behind it, in the Nephilim Watchtower. He’d know if one of Hell’s big shots swung by his front door on a regular basis.

Wouldn’t he?

“Enough of this. New question. What are you?”

“Ah. That’s right.” Something—resignation? Sadness?—tightened the corners of her eyes. “You wouldn’t be able to tell. I’m a dark angel.”

Gideon had been trained by the Right and Holy Seraphic Order of the Nephilim. He’d fought hundreds, if not thousands, of demons. Interacted with the rank and file of paranormal creatures.

He’d never heard of a dark angel.

But he knew about angels. And that if you put the word “dark” in front of anything in his world, it pointed to one specific place. “My new actuary’s a denizen of Hell?”

“No.” Her entire body jerked at the suggestion. “Definitely not. I live here now. Well, in Buffalo. I can’t even get back to Hell to visit my aunt without making these complicated plans with the ferry.”

Gideon wasn’t up on all the various ways in and out of the netherworld. But he knew one sure way. And if he could do it, a dark angel sure could. “Fly yourself.”

“No!” Evangeline shrieked out the word. Then she clutched at his arms as hard as she’d fought him earlier. “Don’t let go.”

“Women always come around to begging me like that, given time.” Was he being a jerk? Yeah. But she deserved it.

“I can’t fly, Gideon. Please.” Evangeline’s voice trembled on the last word.

Shit. He wanted to bicker with her. Pay her back for being bitchy about the whole life-saving mix-up.

He didn’t want to scare her.

Without thinking about it, he rubbed his cheek against the top of her head. “Don’t worry. I’ve got you. I’ve flown across half of Poland carrying an ozmanthin demon. They outweigh you by a solid two hundred pounds.”

“I suppose, as only a half-angel, that’s considered impressive?”

Funny that Gideon was relieved at her jibe. It meant she wasn’t scared anymore. “This half-angel can fly. Right now, I’d say that ranks me higher than whatever a dark angel is.”

Interview With Christi Barth

Q: Hi, Christi Barth. Tell us about your heroine. What inspired her quirks and struggles?

CB: Wow, out of the 46 heroines I’ve written, Evangeline is the best one for this question! She’s a Dark Angel (grandfather is Lucifer, so raised in Hell – but since he is mostly good, Dark Angels can decide to be good or bad), but without any bad powers. Just one that pisses off all Hell creatures. She’s bullied her entire life—by demons!—so she flees to Buffalo for college and her career. All this bullying has made her intensely tough. And very lonely, even if she insists she can go it alone (spoiler-she can’t and she shouldn’t, lol!).

Q: If your book was made into a movie, who would star in it?

CB: So easy – I celebrity cast all my books. Gideon is Chad Michael Murray, and Evangeline is the blonde version of Elizabeth Olsen.

Q: What was the highlight of writing this book?

CB: I know I should say some glorious romantic scene, but honestly? It was the Devil. Lucifer Morningstar. He’s Evangeline’s grandfather, and he’s in the book. So after a lifetime of reading about him and seeing him in movies (Al Pacino) and TV (Tom Ellis), I got to decide what my version would look like. At first I was overwhelmed, and then I just had fun with it!

Q: How many books have you published and which is your favorite?

CB: I recently finished book 46 (whew!) which should be out late next year. Technically, my favorite is whatever I’m writing, but if I had to choose otherwise, it’d be The Princess Problem. I got the idea for it while in the audience of Anastasia on Broadway. Spent all of intermission scribbling plot points down on the back of my ticket. I’ve always had an obsession for royals (I’ve gotten up at the crack of dawn to watch every royal wedding) and I loved every minute of putting a spin on royalty with an opinionated, stubborn, adorable American as the heroine.

Q: Are you a fan of podcasts? Recommend a podcast to readers.

CB: Omigosh, I listen to them every day. Soooo many. No Such Thing As A Fish (hilarious), Be My Guest with Ina Garten, Happier in Hollywood, The Moth, Smartless, Dark Woods (fiction), Solar (fiction), Not Lost.

Q: What’s your ideal writing space?

CB: Every summer, we rent a beachfront condo for a week in Ocean City, Maryland. I love to write (after dinner and wine) on the balcony late into the night with the whoosh of the waves right beneath me. And I just came back from a writer’s retreat with friends at the beach which was immensely productive – that salt air just does it for me!

This Or That Questions:

Coke or Pepsi? Diet Dr. Pepper.
Book or Movie? 99.999% of the time, the book. That .001% for a movie? Fifty Shades series.
Morning or Night? Night. Absolute night owl—it started when I was an actress, and my body never adjusted out of that rhythm. I write best at night, too.
City or Country? City. Absolutely. I need theatre, symphony, copious restaurants, cars, and people.
Early or Late? Early. Total punctuality stickler.
Haunted Mansion or Un-haunted Shack? Haunted Mansion. It’d be worth it for the utter luxury.
