Navratri has started and the festive time is on. During this people wear Traditional dresses in the evenings and at night as a part of the celebration. Let’s get to know more about the traditional dresses worn by girls and women in North and South India during these 9 days.

 The nine-day festival is celebrated in various parts of India and other parts of the world as well. People also participate in different events during Navratri. There is the meaning of wearing nine colours: pink, white,red, orange, yellow, maroon, dark blue, green, purple, beige.

 A specific colour signifies each day of Navratri and the devotees wear these colours to seek the blessings of 9 forms of Goddess Durga.

 The nine Navratri colours are Orange, White, Red, Royal Blue, Yellow, Green, Grey, Purple and Peacock Green. These colours are used to depict each of the goddesses worshipped during the festival.

 The colors and their meanings are: orange for energy, white for purity, red for passion, royal blue for strength, yellow for happiness, green for growth, grey for subtlety, purple for beauty, and peacock green for richness. Wearing these colors during Navratri is believed to invoke the blessings of the goddess.

Navratri traditional dresses are synonyms with colorful ghagra choli, chaniya choli, and lehenga choli dresses.

 The girls and the women wear Chaniya choli, a three-piece dress with a choli, which is an embroidered and colorful blouse, teamed with chaniya, which is the flared, skirt-like bottom, with intricate work and dupatta, which is usually worn in the traditional Gujarati manner.

 During Navaratri, girls often wear traditional Indian attire like chaniya cholis or lehengas, which are colorful and vibrant skirts paired with matching blouses and dupattas (scarves).

 The chaniya choli is the most popular women's Garba dress for Navratri nights. It comprises a kalidar Lehenga or Chaniya, embellished with cultural decorations like stones, sequins, gota, Bandhani work, kaudis (shell), mirror-work, etc. – and a choli which is a small, crop-top-like blouse.

 For a traditional pooja, you might consider wearing a saree in auspicious colors like red, yellow, or white. These colors are often associated with religious ceremonies and bring a sense of reverence to the occasion.

 On the Durga puja day, RED -This colour symbolises love and is Goddess Durga's favourite colour. Women also wear heavy jewelry, such as necklaces, sparkling bangles, waist belts and long oxidized earrings.  The top is Choli which is an embroidered and colorful blouse, teamed with bottom called Chanya (also chaniya), Lahenga or Ghagra.

 A langa voni (also called "pavadai daavani" in Tamil or "laṅga davaṇi" in Kannada) is a traditional dress worn in South India during navratri. It is also known as the two-piece sari or half sari. Girls wear it on special occasions.

The Pavada is a traditional attire for young girls in Tamil Nadu. It consists of a flared skirt paired with a blouse and is usually made from soft and comfortable fabrics like cotton. Pavada is colorful and adorned with various designs, making it a popular choice for young girls during festivals and celebrations.

 Pattu Pavadai is a traditional dress of South India. The paavadai or langa is a cone-shaped, long skirt that is pleated and tied around the waist, normally made of silk that hangs down from the waist to the toes.
