AN ANCIENT TEMPLE WHERE UTANGA MUNI WAS BLESSED

The Divya kshetram Tiru Arimeya Vinnagaram is located in Tirunangur 8 Kms east of Sirkazhi in Tamil Nadu.  This is one of the 11 Divya Desams of Tirumangai Azhwar.

The presiding deity is Kudamadu Koothan in a seated posture and the Goddess Amritha Ghata Valli is housed in a separate sanctum.  The sacred water is Amrita Theertham and the Sanctum Sanctorum is Uchasrunga Vimanam.

Legend has it that Lord Vishnu blessed Utanga Muni with the vision of Krishna at this shrine.  It is also believed that once, Lord Siva performed the Ekadasa Rudra Asvamedha Yajnam to rid himself of the blemish of Brahma-Hatthi, and Lord Vishnu appeared before him with Sri Devi , Bhu Devi and Nila Devi at the end of the sacrifice.  Upon the request of the Lord Siva, Lord Vishnu took up 11 abodes here in Tirunangu area - 11 Divya Kshetrams of Tirumangai Azhwar held in worship by Rudra.

The Tirumangai Azhwar Mangalaasaasanam Utsavam in the Tamil month of Thai attracts large crowd of devotees.
