I read and finished Meant to Be Mine by Hannah Orenstein.
The story isn’t for me. It’s a lovely story and you might like it. I saw some good reviews about it. But I’m more into meant-to-be movies like Sleepless in Seattle and Serendipity than meant-to-be books. I see the irony. Me a bookworm, more into movies. Haha. I think some stories are better in films like Inception.
Here’s a question: is it still a meant-to-be story if they ended up with another person and not the one they’re into from the start like While You Were Sleeping (Sandra Bullock movie) and Just Haven’t Met You Yet by Sophie Cousens?
I’m writing this Meant to Be Mine spoiler for those who want to DNF the book and for those who really don’t want to read the book but still want to know what happens.
Meant to Be Mine Spoiler
Edie’s grandma Gloria prophesied that Edie’s going to meet the love of her life on June 24, 2022. She meets Theo on that date on the plane. And they see each other again days later in the airport going back to New York. They start to date after this.
Edie meets Bennett when Max and Edie’s sister Rae ask them to be their maid of honor and best man. (My thoughts when I was reading this scene: Bennett must be the other guy. There’s usually another person in meant-to-be stories, right? But then after a couple pages, it is revealed that Bennett is actually seeing someone else. So I was wrong, for a moment.)
Edie still thinks of Jonah, her ex boyfriend. She compares Theo and Jonah every now and then. (My thoughts: oh, Jonah must be the other guy since Edie can’t stop thinking about him. But then in chapter 25, it is revealed that Jonah has a new girlfriend and they live together. So no, Jonah and Edie are really over.)
Someone tells Edie and Theo that they would have cute babies which causes them to decide to finally break up. Edie wants to have a family and have babies. Theo doesn’t want.
Edie asks Bennett’s help with Max and Rae’s save-the-dates. They talk and hang out in Edie’s apartment. Bennett tells Edie that Kiara broke up with him.
Edie realizes that she likes Bennett. She asks Bennett on a date. It’s implied that Bennett said yes because they tell each other they make each other happy and they kiss. They are in love and in a relationship in the end.
