I know its been a minute since I posted…. But here I am and today I’m bring you my review of The Serpent and the Wings of Night.
This book has been all over my TikTok for the past few weeks and I decided to see what all the fuss was about. More than once I saw that people were saying that Carissa Broadbent is going to be the new Sarah J. Mass. Well I’m going to have to disagree. I really really wanted to love this book but it just didn’t happen. I took me until about the 300 page mark for me to be mildly interest in the storyline. I really did have to dig deep and push through.
Lets start by looking at our main characters. Oraya, found her extremely frustrating, there was no character growth. I found her relationship with Vincent incredibly disturbing, that guy is a walking red flag! Needless to say I did not like him! And then we have Raihn, again I really did want to like him but he just felt like every other fantasy love interest – there was nothing unoriginal about him.
The storyline was a confusing. I don’t understand the vampire system in this world… there was no explanation on how vampires are turned. The trials were same same and seemed to drag on needlessly. The pacing just felt off. And don’t get me started on the ending… it was so predictable.
Overall, this book had lots of potential, but the execution was a little lacking. For a book that is over 500 pages long I feel like needed more.
