Name of the book: AFTER THE DARK
Name of the author: ROHIT PAGARE
If this book were about a bird, it would have been about a bird whose wings were clipped. A bird who desperately wanted to fly again.
After The Dark turned out to be a gut-wrenching tale that oscillates between urban and rural India. It has well fleshed-out characters, in whose lives you soon get sucked in.
All this leading to a spellbinding climax.
The author knows his craft as can be seen by the twists and turns the story takes. The author juggled quite a few storylines, that you begin to wonder where it was all going. But the payoff, ultimately, did pack a satisfying punch.
On the downside, the book could have done with a few uh-ahh literary moments. Where one pauses and looks at the wall in front, lost in the brilliance of the sentence just read. Maybe, the author did not want to divert our attention from the narrative. So, he is forgiven.
What I personally liked about this novel is that minor characters are named (which itself is big) and described with the same love shown to major characters.
