Jeepers Creepers by Renee Conoulty

Contemporary Romance, 2019

Good short romantic stories can capture lovely small moments in a developing relationship. It’s like a perfect memory, frozen and framed so that, regardless of what happens down the road, one will always have that to cherish.

Yes, you caught me. I’m just trying to make this review longer, because in reality, Renee Conoulty’s Jeepers Creepers is so short yet so forgettable that I wonder what the author is trying to give to her readers in this one.

Karen meets Lowan in her dance class and he asks her out. That’s it for this one.

Oh, the Story synopsis mentions her being torn between one Ben and one Lowan, but it’s perfectly clear while reading this story that the latter has Karen’s heart from the get go.

So, that’s it. This is a “moments” story, about the start of a relationship, and from what I see, this is actually a standalone story.

Well I’m perfectly fine with “moments” stories in general, as there is some vicarious joy to be had in following the start of a beautiful thing.

However, I find this particular moment forgettable.  Sure, it’s readable, but… meh.

Hence, the whole thing is not very tasty, akin to eating only a piece of cornflakes dry when I’d rather have a bowlful with milkshake, M&M sprinkled all over, and a few scoops of ice cream and… uh…

I hope my doctor isn’t reading this as they are always harping on my HbA1c score, but eh, I need a moment for myself too. Excuse me, I’ve some things to do now in the kitchen.
