The Gathering Storm (2022)

Main cast: Temuera Morrison (Boba Fett), Ming-Na Wen (Fennec Shand), Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner (Modifier), Matt Berry (8D8), Carey Jones (Black Krrsantan), and Jennifer Beals (Garsa Fwip)
Director: Kevin Tancharoen

The Gathering Storm opens with more flashbacks, this time of how Bobo meets Fennec. Yes, because this show needs any excuse it can get to avoid putting Bobo in any actual action, even if the rest of the cast was populated by stuntmen and make-up people doubling as extras for both cost-cutting and CV-padding purposes.

Meet Bobo Foot, pacifist and star of flailing and grunting action in flashbacks, people. God knows what happened to the Boba Fett referenced in the name of this show.

Out of curiosity, I check out the staff writer Noah Kloor on IMDB, and color me shocked that this is the fellow’s first major writing gig; his previous gigs were short stuff, none of them related to action or sci-fi in any way. I suppose he’s cheap or a friend of someone on high to get hired, and you know what they say: you get what you pay for, Lucasfilm.

So yes, much of this episode sees Bobo wandering around the desert, walking down hallways, walking up corridors, and waddling back down to the desert, all the while looking like his face is carved out of stone and he can’t emote much anymore because he’s now older than Mumm-Ra and has the worst case of osteoarthritis.

Garsa Fwip shows up late in the episode to remind me that this thing is still happening, so tune in next week.

So, these people have wasted an Entire Episode to show me that Bobo and Fennec as besties, as if I didn’t already know that. Sadly, I don’t care about these two characters to clamor to know how they met in the first place, and as a result, this entire episode is one waste of time.

How many episodes more are there in this series? So far the whole series has been a horrible snooze, with Bobo taking what seems like an entire episode just to make three small, hobbled steps forward.

Is the entire season going to be a pretentious allegory for growing old and feeble?
