The Paris Apartment-Book Review

Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there.

The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig into her brother’s situation, and the more questions she has. Ben’s neighbors are an eclectic bunch, and not particularly friendly. Jess may have come to Paris to escape her past, but it’s starting to look like it’s Ben’s future that’s in question.

The socialite – The nice guy – The alcoholic – The girl on the verge – The concierge

Everyone’s a neighbor. Everyone’s a suspect. And everyone knows something they’re not telling.

MY THOUGHTS

The Guest List was the first book, I tried of Lucy Foley. Dnfed it after a few pages. I’ve been seeing The Paris Apartment since last year and it also won a Goodreads award, so decided to give it a try.

Jess has left a job in a not-ideal situation and traveled from London to Paris where her half-brother Ben lived. Both siblings are in on-off touch. Ben knows she is coming and left her an audio message compromising his address, after that Ben is AWOL. Though, Jess was able to reach his place but couldn’t find him. The apartment building is old and the neighbors are strange. Jess has to find her brother.

The atmosphere of the book was so dark and weird, I just wanted to escape from this world and the creepy characters. No one was even bearable. I don’t know if we were supposed to like Jess or not cz I found her so entitled and obnoxious, I am sure her last job was also done with her. The writing, details, and pace nothing was able to catch my attention. All of the characters felt so shallow and underdeveloped, with so many fillers, so many details and so many illogical aspects. All characters deserved each other.

I am glad that I am done with this book and will be able to cross Lucy Foley from my list.
