The Hate U Give-Book Review

Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, Angie Thomas’s searing debut about an ordinary girl in extraordinary circumstances addresses issues of racism and police violence with intelligence, heart, and unflinching honesty. Soon to be a major motion picture from Fox 2000/Temple Hill Productions.

Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed.

Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her Family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr.

But what Starr does—or does not—say could upend her community. It could also endanger her life.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Genre Young adult fiction

Pages 444

Starr who is living 2 life one in garden height her normal, other in Williamson where she don’t want her to be judged by being black until she saw her best friend killed by a cop just because he was black and cop ASSUMED he is armed and a danger to him.

Starr life just changed as she saw in her 16 years of life two murders of her friends.

“Funerals are mot for dead people. They’re for the living”

It was incredible to read how her Character developed from a scared girl to a brave girl who is not scared to say the truth, doesn’t matter what are the circumstances

“What’s the point of having a voice if you’re gonna be silent in those moments you shouldn’t be?”

“Brave doesn’t mean you’re not scared. It means you go on even though you’re scared.”

What I liked in the book was the BONDING between Carter family and all the characters, Maverick was an ex-King but how he changed himself for his family because there is always a way to come back.

Chris who is a white boy friend of Starr, who always have her back, because Racism is even not an option…

All the characters were too real, It was too easy to read if everything is so well connected. Ending was perfect for me, It was real, Everybody don’t get justice doesn’t matter how hard you tried

“Sometimes you can do everything right and things will still go wrong. The key is to never stop doing right.

Yeah there were some flaws, I don’t like writing at some places, no need of too many curses and sometimes it was also difficult to understand all those rappers/singers references…It was more dark than I anticipated.

“A hairbrush is not a gun.”

But I Recommend it to everyone who want to read A near to Reality book.
