Characterized by excess tissues,  hypertrophic scars are formed over the skin. It is usually darker than the skin in a particular area.

3. Keloid scars

These scars are formed as a result of an aggressive healing or an overproduction of the skin tissues. Characterized by a raised, puffy appearance, this can be an unusual typically darker than your surrounding skin and easily visible. Unlike a hypertrophic scar, keloid scars can grow beyond the injured area.

4. Contracture scars

Contracture scars are a result of your skin being largely damaged, typically from burns. They are characterized by tight, shiny skin that can restrict some movements.

There is no known way that these scars will disappear, but however, you can take care of them at home which will help the scar become lighter overtime on its own. That being said, there are some natural methods and remedies which can help speed up the process of lightening your scars on the skin and get less noticeable. 1. Aloe Vera

Over-time, your scars heal when there are moisturized. If you include some soothing properties in your treatment at home, it will make the scar lighten faster. Aloe Vera is one such antioxidant that reduces swelling and redness of the scars. In its own natural form, this natural astringent removes excess oil and dead cells. Aloe Vera is also very good for sunburns and the best part is that it doesn’t require any measurements either. If you can get the plant, even better. All you need to do is, scrape it off the leaf, lather the scar,  and cover it with some plastic wrap. It might feel sticky but your skin will thank you.

  • Remove the outer dark skin from an aloe vera leaf
  • Scoop out the almost clear light green gel
  • Apply the gel directly to your scar and cover it
  • Wash the gel off with fresh, cool water, after 30 minutes
  • Repeat twice each day

2.  Lemon Juice

To lighten your scar, lemon can be a great choice. It has alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA), which has the healing properties for all your skin needs. Known as a natural bleach, this lightener aids in cell growth and you will need very little lemon to do that. All you have to do is, cut a lemon in half and rub it over the scar; squeeze the lemon over the scar and let it soak in for about 15 minutes. Dab the scar with cool water to rinse. Lemons are also best used if your skin is sensitive and fighting against tans. Use it before heading out during the day.

3. Turmeric Powder

We all know what turmeric can do! One of the most effective methods, turmeric is great for acne scars, because it contains curcumin – a compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that reduce skin, dark pigmentation. This helps in discoloration and skin glow. It is also considered as an antiseptic, so it smooths your skin without irritation. For better results, use it with some honey (1 tsp each) and keep it on for about 20 minutes. The paste will exfoliate your skin and remove dead skin cells. Wash the paste off with cool water.

4. Honey

Another effective method to take care of your skin scars is honey. There is a reason why honey is on this list. It’s natural moisturizing effects and tissue regeneration help it make a popular ingredient to mix into your skincare regime. Honey, in its raw form, is the best and also contains medicinal properties that help in lightening the scars. Mixing honey with cinnamon is a great idea if you want to keep your skin smooth and clear.

5. Baking Soda

Ever thought how baking soda could help in removing skin scars? It balances your pH levels and acts as a natural exfoliator. By using this ingredient, it eliminates dead skin cells and leaves your skin refreshed and clean, without damaging the skin around the scars. All you need to do is, use two parts water and one part baking soda to form a paste and scrub it on the affected area. Rinse it after a minute or two.

6. Apple Cider Vinegar

Need we say more? Another natural ingredient – Apple cider vinegar has been touted for everything from cleaning solutions to skincare. When it comes to treating scars, you can mix apple cider vinegar with honey, apply it to the affected area and leave it on for 10 minutes. For best results, repeat this thrice in a day.

7. Coconut Oil

Now, what is our favorite way to use coconut oil? We either dab some drops of it under our eyes, on our lips and bare brows to keep our skin looking naturally fresh, right? However, any oil can work if they are rich in omega fatty acids, as they have the ability to penetrate and moisturize the skin. The properties help in restoring the glow of your skin which makes coconut oil a great remedy to maintain radiant skin. Coconut oil is especially great for lightening scars and is highly recommended to make it a part of your daily skincare routine.
