Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han | REVIEW & DISCUSSION

Hey, guys! I am so sorry I have been AWOL. I have just been dealing with a lot of shit right now, honestly. I go into all of it in an upcoming Life Update video on my booktube channel so you can check that out, but I have just been very depressed and I have been throwing myself into work. I have been pretty silent on all of my social media because it has just been too hard. But I am very excited to move past all of that with the new school year in the next month. Now, this is the third and final book in the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series by Jenny Han, and I absolutely loved this book. If you recall from my review of the second book, P.S. I Love You, I was not pleased with that book, but this one is so much better and I had so many emotions whilst reading it, so let’s go ahead and jump right in!

Synopsis:

“Lara Jean is having the best senior year. And there’s still so much to look forward to: a class trip to New York City, prom with her boyfriend Peter, Beach Week after graduation, and her dad’s wedding to Ms. Rothschild. Then she’ll be off to college with Peter, at a school close enough for her to come home and bake chocolate chip cookies on the weekends.

Life couldn’t be more perfect!

At least, that’s what Lara Jean thinks…until she gets some unexpected news.

Now the girl who dreads change must rethink all her plans—but when your heart and your head are saying two different things, which one should you listen to?”

My Thoughts:

This book was an absolutely amazing conclusion!

I cannot believe it took me this long to read the book because I have had it for forever, but I am so glad I have read it now because it was absolutely fabulous. I loved how it was so much more than a girl in high school finishing off her senior year. Jenny Han touched on how much Lara Jean misses her mom, how difficult the decision of going to college, where you’re going, the toll it can take on a relationship, the toll it takes on a family, all of that, how it all is not just something that happens in books. Those are real issues that college kids face today.

I obviously loved the romance, but I also absolutely adored how real the characters were. They felt like real people, and I think that is super important in literature. This book just really reminded me why I love this series so much. The second book, P.S. I Still Love You, was not one of my favorites. I hated the petty drama that we saw in it, but everything that I felt from the first book and that was missing from the second, we saw and felt in Always and Forever, Lara Jean. This was everything I could have possibly wanted in this conclusion.

I also just love how this is a story that includes a very heavy familial presence, unlike most young adult novels. The family is such a huge and integral part of this story, and I think that helped to make it seem more real. Family is a big part of my life and its a big part of a lot of other people’s lives and it was nice to see that reflected in this series.

I also really loved how we got to see Lara Jean grow as a person and develop as a character over the course of these three books. The Lara Jean Song Covey we see from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is very different, but also similar in some ways, to the girl we know in Always and Forever, Lara Jean. It’s a beautiful transformation as we see her grow up and develop from a girl to a young woman, and I love how we got to go on this journey with her to finding herself and growing up.

Overall, I just really loved this book and this series, and I am so excited we got the conclusion we deserved from Jenny Han because it was so heart-warming and just very beautiful, and I cannot wait to see what other stories Jenny Han has in store for her beloved readers like myself.

And there you have it! That was my review of Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han. What is your favorite summery contemporary? Comment down below! I would love to know. And that is going to be it for this review today. Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time!
