----------------

Thought of the Day: I was raised in a Deeply Dysfunctional conservative Catholic home, one where my "father" (he was in name only) literally beat into us the Protestant work ethic, itself deeply dysfunctional. So when I come across days like today, where my schedule just happens to have one task on it, my mind immediately races to fill the rest of the day in with other projects and household chores, all of which, in their own way, are important, of course, which makes resisting the temptation to do so even more onerous.

Almost sixty years old, I can see so clearly just how broken I am from my upbringing, never mind the crappy life choices I've made since. Those are damn near numberless. We live our lives between our ears, our own stories, ones that often conflict, like fearsome winds pushing and pulling our boats here and there and everywhere. And then we die.

So here I am with one task today and those hateful childhood winds roaring at me to get busy doing this and that, that and this. I look at my hands, those of a man entering elderhood, and ... there it is: the winds of mortality, pushing me to hurryhurryhurryhurry! because there's no question now that I've lived over half of my life. It's very wearying, fighting those winds, seeking safe harbor.

What's left to do today? Oh, a fuckton. The AC needs cleaning. A new grocery list needs to be made. Watering plants. Getting some exercise. Maintenance on the TARDIS. As for writing, I need to edit Melody's Add-ons, an increasingly ancient document where I record plot or character notes for further study. There's this new Reviews project, which I just started. There's the next edit of The Failure of the Saeire Insu. There an Extra Notes blog post that I haven't looked at in a week.

What's a broken man to do?

I hope you have a nice evening.
