Thought of the Day: Kye and I are finishing Schitt's Creek. We've only got a dozen or so episodes to go.
What a great series. It offers something that doesn't happen often in TV: the slow burn. The story has solidified over six seasons into something truly special and touching on multiple levels. Last year it won a record number of Emmys; I can see why now.
It's funny, warm, awkward, sometimes plodding, sometimes painful. The characters are extremely well fleshed out and real, the episodes almost ridiculously simplistic, which forces the focus back on the characters. Which is exactly how I want things.
As a sitcom, though it still struggles with cynicism, it manages most times to rise above it. That too is fairly rare and precious.
If you haven't watched it, start. It's the kind of series that you can watch before bedtime, then retire with a smile on your face.
Have a nice evening!
