Music & Lyrics: "Heal Me, I'm Heartsick" by No Vacancy (Adam Pascal) (from School of Rock, 2003)

Heal Me, I'm Heartsick
No Vacancy
(Adam Pascal)

~~*~~

Heal me, I’m heartsick
I’m hungry and I'm broken
I'm haunted and weeping
The blood of heaven flowin'
Like a river tonight
The tears I can't fight on my own

I'm a haunted heathen
I’m hung and barely breathin'
The drowning ocean
Snuff the sun in motion
There’s a pill on my tongue
A shot from a gun
The bottle's bottom
I'm lonely as a star

Heal me, I’m heartsick
Hungry, thought I could survive on you
Hear my heartsick hungry cry
I'm heartsick

Father, free me
Momma, woman, feed me
A child of fury
Lost her way but don't worry
I won't stop till the dawn
Though I've been too long on the run
I grow strong and restless as a storm

Heal me, I’m heartsick
Hungry, thought I could survive on you
Hear my heartsick hungry cry
I'm heartsick

Heal me, I’m heartsick
I’m hungry and I'm broken
I'm haunted and weeping
The blood of heaven flowing
Like a river tonight
The tears I can't fight on my own

So heal me, I’m heartsick
Hungry, thought I could survive on you
Hear my heartsick hungry cry
I'm heartsick!

So heal me, I’m heartsick
I'm hungry, thought I could survive on you
Hear my heartsick hungry cry!

I'll get around to reviewing
School of Rock someday,
which stands as one of my all-time favorite films.
Not least because of this song,
which, if you watch the movie,
is only briefly featured,
but is enough to defeat our young heroes' song.

The crowd, of course, is outraged,
as we're all intended to be.
But this song truly is fabulous,
a power ballad worthy of the very best
the 80s offered from the very best hair
bands of the age.

For me, this song has long since taken on
even more meaning and beauty,
as it clearly, in my mind at least,
belongs to Yaeko,
whose inner passion and grace
mirror the lyrics almost perfectly.

This song is for you, Yaeko.
