Welcome to the gayest League in all of women’s international sports, or so I believe: the super league, alternatively known as the premier league. In other sports (namely, the WNBA and NWSL), I was able to find double as many confirmed straight people as confirmed gay people. That was just not the case here!

This year’s season is already in full swing, but with 20 match days still to go before playoffs, there’s plenty of time to choose a favorite team. This list is designed to help you do exactly that. The way football works in the UK is that the top team in the league moves up and the bottom team moves down. Since I’m only tracking the highest bracket, you’ll find that Reading is off the list this year, and Bristol has moved in!

Arsenal

With 10 out Gay Players on the team, there’s no shortage of players and drama to root for. To the shock of everyone, Vivianne Miedema broke up with her long time girlfriend and football extraordinaire Lisa Evans and began dating current Arsenal player Beth Mead earlier this year.

With four out gay players on the team, this ranks in the middle for gayness, but closer to the top for intra-team romances, with Julia Zigiotti Olme and Emma Kullberg being publically together.

Bristol City

As I said up top, Bristol City is a new team in the Super League this year, having won their division in the 2022-23 season. As a result, I know the least about this team because I haven’t looked into them before today! There’s only two out gay players on the team, but it’s worth cheering for them if you’re looking for an underdog.

Chelsea

Sam Kerr is probably best known for the “sportsmanship” photo that went viral between her and girlfriend / rival Kristie Mewis during the Australia vs. USA national game. Chelsea has been winning the league fairly consistently over the past few years, so if you want to be a bandwagon fan, cheer here. If you want to be fun, root against them! They’re winning too much, that makes them villains in my book.

Everton

It may seem like all I’m talking about is the intra-team relationships, but that’s because there’s so many great ones in the premier league! Nathalie Bjron and Aurora Galli are together, and their photos are absolutely adorable.

Leicester City

If you’re a Leicester fan, I hate to break it to you but this is one of the least gay team in the league- at least publicly. If you’re looking for a couple to root for now that it appears Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger have broken up, Aileen Whelan and her wife have child together and their family is adorable.

As the runners-up last year, this team has something to prove. The only player on this team who I’ve heard of is Millie Turner, who is currently dating Rachel Daly. Daly, who is currently playing for Aston Villa, was a star on the Houston Dash for years before going overseas.

Tottenham Hotspur

In terms of romance, Shelina Zadorsky is dating teammate Rosella Ayane, Amy Turner is dating Angharad James, and Ellie Brazil is dating West Ham player Emma Harries. With 10 out gay players on the roster, Tottenham ties Arsenal for the most openly queer roster.
