There has been a recent uptick in Book bans across the country which disproportionately affect queer authors and stories. As a huge book advocate, I was wracking my brain for what I could do to bring more visibility to queer literature. 

I work with GSA Link, Inc. , a non-profit that supports LGBTQ+ youth and their families. Since this aligns with the work I do there, I proposed an idea: a Database of LGBTQ+ books. It has been live for over a month now, and already has over 800 titles! There are new titles added every week, and my goal is to get to 1000 by the end of September! 

The database is split up into four sections based on the book’s age recommendations: Children’s, Middle Grade, Young Adult and Adult. Each sheet is then categorized by title, author, genre(s) and what specific LGBTQ+ representation is in the book. For books I haven’t read yet, I used the internet to find answers to the best of my ability!

While you are checking out the database, maybe consider volunteering through our organization’s mentorship program, Linked Mentoring! We are looking for LGBTQ+ adults (18+) who would like to be matched with an LGBTQ+ youth (7-17) to meet weekly for support and connection based on areas of shared lived experiences!
