My 2022 Hopes Dreams and Goals

I started Book blogging at the beginning of December so that now I’m already in a routine at the start of 2022. As is tradition on this blog and many others, I wanted to take some time to talk about my goals for this blog, as well as my internet presence as a whole. This is a great way for me to hold myself accountable throughout the year, as well as to look back on many years in the future to see how far I’ve come.

If you haven’t noticed already, I decided to buy writethroughthenight.com! This is huge for me and was one of my goals for 2022 but I already achieved it! Yay!

I decided to split up my goals into a few different categories, and create sub-goals for Youtube and this blog. Although some of these goals are directly actionable (which I would encourage for anyone setting goals), others rely on you guys and the support you give me to achieve.

Increase My Follower Counts

1. 1000 on WTTN

It took me soooo long to decide where I wanted to set this number. I started off blogging with 740 followers already existing from the “old” days, and at the time of Writing this post I have 750. That’s obviously a negligible jump compared to what my goal is, but I think I can do it. I’m expanding my audience into more TV/Movies already, and I hope to start writing more about culture in general in the coming months. At the end of the day, I want this blog to be a reflection of all of my interests. I’m looking to move away from a restrictive view of what I can post and into a more immersive reality. In addition, I want to start featuring other writers on this blog! I think it would be very cool to make WTTN a collaborative site where writers can share their passions. If you’re interested in writing something that you think would be a good fit for the blog, please reach out!

2. 1000 subscribers on Youtube

Hitting 1000 on Youtube has been the ultimate goal for a very long time, and I’m hoping that this year will be the year I finally hit it. It’s probably a little overambitious, especially given that the majority of people who watch my content were watching for MIT related advice and I graduated. I’m going to have to rebuild an audience that cares about me as a person, and I’m interested to see how many of my current subscribers will stick around. Still, I really want to hit 1k and setting this goal as anything lower would be disingenuous.

Create Consistent Engagement

1. 1000 views/month on WTTN

Back in the day, I was easily getting this much engagement. Interest in book blogging has dropped but I’m hoping that by posting more and getting other people engaged on the blog, I’ll still be able to hit this metric.

2. 10 videos with > 1k views on Youtube

This goal is one that I nearly hit this past year and ended up falling 1 video short of. I want to have 10 videos receive over 1k views in 2022, although they don’t have to all be published in that year. This is a good goal for me because it’ll mean creating quality content that people want to watch and engage with.

Stick To My Posting Schedule

1. Post > 104 times on WTTN

If I stuck to my posting schedule perfectly, I’d have to post 156 times this year. I’m setting my goal to just 1/3 of that so that if I feel pressure to skip days in order to only post quality content, I just do it. There’s nothing worse than putting out bad content. That being said, ideally I wouldn’t miss a single day. I just don’t see that being a realistic goal, especially in the TV/movies realm.

2. Post 52 times on Youtube

That’s right, my goal here is to not miss a single day. However, there is a small caveat there. I want to not miss a single Wednesday for the entire year, but I also hope that I’ll do Vlogmas again, which would add ~8 extra videos to the schedule. That gives me some flexibility even if it seems like a rigid structure.

Get Published (For Real)

I want to launch my freelance journalism career, and I want to get published for real. In a real publication that is not one I created. This means consistently pitching ideas, and consistently writing pieces anytime I see an open call that would suit my writing style. My mini achievable goal in this category is to pitch at least once a week. That isn’t a ton, I know, but I am also working full time, running my Youtube channel, and posting three times a week on this blog.

Read 52 Books

I know I already wrote a whole post about this, but I wanted to get a little more specific here. I’m going to create a little breakdown of books by genre, for you. There’s not that many stipulations and I’m thinking it’ll be relatively easy to hit, but I want to write it down to hold myself accountable so that I can keep checking in over the course of the year.

  • 5+ Nonfiction books (this does not count memoirs. I want to become a more educated person)
  • 7+ Netgalley/ARC/reviewer copies (I want to read and review what people need me to read and review)

Life Goals

Outside of the internet realm, I hope to just live a happier life overall. The end of 2021 was full of adjustments. I graduated, moved to Boston alone, and started working my first ever full time job. Now that I’ve had an adjustment period, it’s time to start living my very best adult life. This goal doesn’t have any bullet points because I’m not sure what to specify but honestly, I just want to be happy. If there’s something I’m doing that isn’t contributing to my happiness, I will stop doing it. If there’s something that I’m not doing that would contribute to my happiness, I’ll start doing it. The purpose of this goal is to free me to do what makes me happy.

What are your goals for 2022? Do you think mine are achievable?
