Review

Last night, I watched Red Notice with my family, and it was a hit with all of us. It’s the type of movie that you can watch with anyone, regardless of ages or the types of movies they enjoy, and they’ll all have a good time. We watched this as our Thanksgiving night movie, and I’d highly recommend if you’re looking for a movie for yourself or as a group viewing.

The premise of the movie is that Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot are competing thieves trying to capture three egyptian-era golden eggs to sell for $300 million dollars. Dwayne Johnson is a FBI agent attempting to stop them. Early on, Gadot, known as the “bandit” gets Reynolds and Johnson’s characters arrested, Reynolds for stealing the egg and Johnson being set up for stealing the egg. Despite being enemies, Reynolds and Johnson become accomplices in finding the other two eggs, although their missions are frequently thwarted by the Bandit.

This makes for a very cute buddies action comedy. Reynolds is hilarious, and the way he interacts with Johnson elevates the comedy even further. There were many laugh out loud moments throughout the film. Gadot’s character was also unexpectedly hilarious, coming in with well timed entrances and single liners that surprised me with their wit.

What made this movie as enjoyable as it was, though, was all of the twists and turns. We were frequently met with twists that I didn’t expect, but made complete sense (and in fact explained some things) in hindsight. It’s rare that a movie can completely surprise me with the twists and yet still have the line up with everything and not feel like they’ve come out of nowhere.

I personally loved this movie, and I’m not a big action movie fan at all. The dialogue and plot felt substantive enough to carry it, and there is definitely action scenes for the lovers of a more classic action movie.
