So, Have You Ever Heard of Guerilla Marketing?

I came across this term many many years ago and did try and implement it to my Marketing strategy then. It wasn't successful mainly because I didn't use it right. So, what is Guerilla Marketing?

Guerilla Marketing is just one form of marketing that uses an element of surprise or the term that I like to use to describe it, is 'outside of the box.'

You have probably come across examples of this many times in your day to day life. The graffiti art on walls (Banksy), stencilled messages on the pavement, stickers on lamp posts etc.

However it can be a lot more subtler than that especially if you're on a budget. One method is to place a Gift outside in a public place and make sure your business card is inserted with it. So, for example, I could place a keyring (or something that may not sell) into a gift box with my business card inside with it. This box could then be placed in a public place whether it's outside in a park or in a library.

Where I live, there are walls at the front of a lot of the properties and it's common practice to place items that are not wanted on those walls, for passer-bys to pick up. I've done this with several of my smaller trinkets and asked for either a donation or if they could give the item away. This is all providing that they don't claim the gift as their own.

I have some very attractive gift boxes to hand which are perfect for this. Obviously, choose a day when the weather is likely to be good, although you may be surprised at just how fast those gifts go. Maybe travel further away from your home and find some good spots. Just leave a card with your business name (like Guiding Horses Crafts) and your online store listed but leave out your phone number and personal address.

A lot of my makes are quite small and therefore more difficult to sell as well as list and store. These are ideal giveaways!

Another method is to place a handmade bookmark with the pages of a book but only do this in libraries or books that you see for public use. There have been recorded incidents where the seller has got himself into trouble with placing items within book pages or magazines available for sale in a supermarket or bookstore.

If you're struggling to rank in Google with your keywords (like me), this may be the way to go to increase your traffic and show Google you're worth indexing.

Have you ever tried Guerilla Marketing? What ideas could you come up with? Let me know in the comments. Please comment on the blog as this will help the site enormously.
