Indianapolis, Indiana – Tuesday is a half-price day at the ongoing Book sale at the Indianapolis Public Library. Every day of the week, new books can be purchased at a discount.

The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation will receive all earnings from this book sale and others scheduled throughout the year.

The foundation-run Indy Libray Store holds six book sales each year to raise money for programs at all 25 branches through donations from the public and the library’s discards.

“The sale generates about $250,000 a year, and that the money goes to the Library Foundation, and then that helps advance our mission of raising money for library programs and services that go above and beyond what the tax-supported operating budget can provide,” said Roberta Jaggers, president of The Library Foundation.

Additionally, funds are used to support programs like the summer reading program and give free textbooks to nearby teachers for their classes. This event is made possible by more than simply book readers. The coordinator of the library bookstore, Mike Ehret, emphasized the need of volunteers.

“We are blessed with a 65-member staff of volunteers that help us do all the things that need to be done to get ready for the sale. And for our online sales at all, which is a part of the library store,” Ehert said.

Adult hardcovers can be purchased for $3, while adult paperbacks cost $1. Younger readers can purchase board books for just $0.25 and hardback children’s books for $1.
The final day is Saturday, and Thursday is $8 bag day.
