Top 3 Most Disappointing German Guns of WWII

In the previous post, I have described my list of the top 3 Germany’s Guns of WWII. Whereas the Germans produced some of the most recognizable and effective firearms of the war, such as the MP40 submachine gun and the Karabiner 98k rifle, they also produced a number of less successful weapons. In this article, I’ll talk about the top three worst German Guns of WWII, in my opinion.

1. Mauser 1918 T-Gewehr

This anti-tank gun was the first of its kind to be deployed in battle; but, by the time World War II rolled around, tanks had significantly thicker armor, making it less efficient at piercing their thin armor. The T-Gewehr was quickly phased out of usage because it could not defeat the more modern tanks.

2. FG 42

This light machine gun had a number of design problems that made it challenging to use in combat, despite being intended for use by paratroopers. The FG 42 was cumbersome, heavy, and prone to jamming. The cannon also had a rather moderate rate of fire, and the sights were not very precise.

3. StG 44

The first of its kind, this assault weapon was designed to take the place of the bolt-action rifles that were then considered standard issue. The Karabiner 98k was more dependable than the StG 44, but it was also a lot heavier. Additionally, there weren’t enough of them to completely replace bolt-action rifles, and they were expensive to build.

Conclusion

These are the top three German guns from World War II in my opinion. This is, of course, just my own preference; other military historians may have made different choices. But it is undeniable that these weapons did not fare as well as some other weapons made by the Germans throughout the conflict.
