Easy steps to replace your iPhone X battery

Difficulty               Moderate

Steps                     34

 Time required           1-2 hours

Introduction

With continued use, Iphone batteries lose their capacity to hold a full charge. Apple batteries are designed to retain 80% of their capacity for up to 500 charge cycles, which for most users translates to 18 to 24 months. The chemistry of your battery can deteriorate over time, which can also slow down your iPhone. Replace your battery using this procedure to get your iPhone running like new again.

Precautions should be taken if your battery is swollen.

For easier access to the adhesive strips holding the battery in place, this instruction advises how to completely detach the display, as well as to Remove the lower speaker and Taptic Engine.

After finishing this procedure, calibrate your freshly fitted battery for best performance: Charge it fully and then let it continue to charge for at least another two hours. Then use your iPhone until the battery is low and it turns off. Charge it all the way to 100% without interruption.

Step 1

Pentalobe Screws

Charge your iPhone battery to no more than 25% before you start. If mistakenly pierced, a charged lithium-ion battery may catch fire and/or explode.

  • Turn off your iPhone before you start disassembling it.
  • At the iPhone's bottom edge, there are two 6.9 mm long pentalobe screws. Remove them.
The iPhone's waterproof sealing will be affected if the display is opened. Before continuing past this step, have replacement seals prepared. If you choose to rebuild your iPhone without changing the seals, take precautions to prevent liquid exposure.

Step 2

Opening Procedure

Heating the iPhone's lower edge will aid in softening the adhesive holding the display in place, making it simpler to open.

  • To soften the glue underneath the lower edge of the iPhone, use a hairdryer, a heat gun, or use an iOpener and apply it there for approximately a minute.

Step 3
  • Remove the plastic depth gauge from the center of the iSclack if it is there; it is not necessary for larger smartphones like the iPhone X.
  • Place one suction cup on the front and one on the backside of the iPhone close to its bottom edge.
  • Both suction cups should be firmly placed.
Applying a coating of transparent packing tape to your display or back glass may help the suction cups stick if they are severely damaged.

Step 4
  • To slightly remove the screen from the phone's rear case, hold onto your iPhone firmly and lock the iSclack's handle shut.
A slight gap at the bottom edge is all that is required; avoid attempting to totally separate the screen.
  • Put an opening pick into the opening.

Step 5

The top edge of the display is secured with both glue and clips.
  • The display should be softly pulled or wiggled down toward the Lightning port as you move the opening pick around its top corner.
1. Using too much force will cause the clips to break. Work slowly and with patience.

2. The front panel sensor array may be harmed if the pick is inserted further than a few millimeters, or roughly the width of the display bezel.

  • Any residual glue holding the display in place can be cut by sliding the pick to the other corner.

Step 6
  • To remove it from the front panel, pull on the suction cup's tiny nub.
  • Remove any iSclacks that are still attached to your iPhone after using them.

Step 7
  • Swing the display up from the left side to open the iPhone, just like a book's back cover.
1. The display is still attached to the logic board of the iPhone by a number of delicate ribbon cables, so don't attempt to entirely remove it just yet.

2. Make sure the frame comes off with the display as shown and does not become caught in the gadget.
  • To keep the display raised while using the phone, lean it against something.

Step 8

Display Assembly

  • Remove the following (5) Y000 screws from the bracket holding the logic board connector:
(Three) 1.1 mm screws

(One) 3.1 mm screw

(One )3.7 mm screw

To prevent damaging your iPhone during this repair, keep note of each screw and make sure it is placed correctly where it came from.

Step 9
  • Remove the bracket.

The bracket may be lightly adhered in place. Lift gently but firmly to separate it.

Step 10
  • The battery connector should be removed from its socket on the logic board using a clean fingernail or the point of a spudger.
Don't attempt to harm the black silicone seal that surrounds this board connection. These seals offer extra defense against dust and water infiltration.
  • To avoid accidently making touch with the socket and powering the phone while you're fixing it, bend the connector just a little bit away from the logic board.

Step 11
  • To unplug the connector for the front panel sensor component, use a spudger or your fingernail.

Step 12
  • To unplug the OLED panel cable connector, use a spudger or your fingernail.

Step 13
  • To remove the digitizer cable connector from its socket, lift it up using the point of a spudger.

Step 14
A thin adhesive is used to secure the flex cable of the front panel sensor assembly.
  • Lift the cable with caution until the adhesive separates.

Step 15
  • Remove the display assembly.

Step 16

Lower Speaker

Avoid touching the iPhone's three rows of grounding pads that are located close to the bottom.
  • The speaker and Taptic Engine mounting are fastened with seven screws; remove them.
(Two) Y000 1.9 mm screws

(One)Y000 1.2 mm screw

(One) Y000 1.6 mm screw

(One) Phillips 2.4 mm screw

(One) Phillips 1.7 mm screw

(One) Phillips 1.5 mm screw

Step 17
  • From the edge closest to the battery, raise the bracket. Try not to attempt to entirely remove it as it is still attached by a small flex cable.

Step 18
  • Use the point of a spudger to lift and disconnect the flex cable underneath while holding the bracket out of the way.

Step 19
  • Remove the bracket.

Step 20
  • The 2.1 mm Y000 screw holding the speaker connector cover in place needs to be removed.

Step 21
  • The speaker connector cover should be removed.

Step 22
