Jesus Vega Identified in Fatal Bicycle and Train Accident in Fabens
FABENS, TX (May 24, 2024) – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office identified 45-year-old Jesus Vega who died in a bicycle accident on North Fabens Road on May 12.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at Austin Street around 1:30 PM. Based on a report, Vega was riding his bicycle across the train tracks while the crossing gates were down before the crash.
At the same time, an Amtrak train with passengers was passing through. Subsequently, the train struck the victim.
Officials said Vega suffered grave injuries and died in the incident.
They added that the staff or passengers on the train were not hurt.
Special Traffic Investigators and the Crime Scene Unit with the Sheriff’s Office joined with the railroad police and an investigator with the Medical Examiner’s Office to look into the crash.
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
