Julio Torres Dead and Robert Vanzant Hospitalized after Car Crash on Highway 176
ANDREWS COUNTY, TX (May 22, 2024) — A 29-year-old man identified as Julio Cesar Torres, of Edinburg, died in a car crash on Friday, May 10.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident took place on Highway 176 near mile marker 240 at about 7:05 a.m.
Investigators said Torres drove a Cadillac Escalade eastbound on Highway 176. Then he veered off the roadway.
After that, he tried to go back to the roadway but overcorrected. It resulted in the vehicle skidding into the westbound lane of traffic. That is when it crashed with a GMC Sierra traveling westbound.
Responding officers pronounced Torres dead at the scene. Reports said he did not wear a seatbelt.
Paramedics brought the driver of the GMC to a hospital in Lubbock with serious injuries. They identified him as 67-year-old Robert Vanzant, of Andrews.
Officials continue to investigate the crash.
