Julio Torres Identified in Fatal Accident on Highway 176 in Andrews County
ANDREWS COUNTY, TX (May 22, 2024) – Officials identified 29-year-old Julio Cesar Torres of Edinburg in an accident on Highway 77 on May 10.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened near mile marker 240 just after 7:00 AM. Based on a report, Torres was traveling eastbound on the highway during the collision.
Due to unknown reasons, he veered off the roadway. He subsequently took faulty evasive action and overcorrected back onto the highway that caused his vehicle to side-skid into the westbound traffic lane. There, he struck the westbound vehicle of 67-year-old Robert Vanzant of Andrews.
As a result, Torres suffered grave injuries and died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time the crash occurred.
Emergency crews took Vanzant to the hospital with serious injuries.
This crash remains under investigation, and no further information is available.
