73-Year-Old Diana Villarreal Involved in Freightliner Truck Crash in Woodsboro
WOODSBORO, TX (May 22, 2024) – The Woodsboro Police Department identified 73-year-old Diana Garza Villarreal of Cypress who suffered injuries in an accident on Highway 77 on May 10.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened in the southbound lane of the highway. Based on a report, Villarreal was driving a 2020 Ford Explorer in the inside lane in a construction zone at the time of the crash.
Due to unknown reasons, she struck a 2007 Freightliner truck with a mounted crash bumper. The Explorer struck the crash bumper of the Freightliner and rotated around before stopping in the median facing northbound.
As a result, Villarreal suffered minor injuries in the incident. Emergency crews transported her to Refugio County Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the truck, 20-year-old Justin Granado of La Pryor, and his passenger, 35-year-old John Martinez of Batesville, were not hurt in the crash.
Officers issued Villarreal a citation for failure to control speed.
The Refugio County Sheriff’s Office, Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Department, and Refugio County EMS were also on the scene.
This crash remains under investigation, and no further information is available.
