Rex Zant Identified in Fatal Lubbock Accident
LUBBOCK, TX (May 14, 2024) – The Lubbock Police Department identified 89-year-old Rex Zant of Lamesa who died in an accident on Highway 87 on May 3.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at County Road L around 3:04 PM. Based on a report, Zant was heading south on the highway before the crash.
At the same time, 37-year-old John Villalobos of Lubbock was traveling east on County Road L. Due to unknown reasons, Villalobos did not yield the right of way at a stop sign and struck Zant.
As a result, Zant suffered grave injuries in the incident. Emergency crews transported the victim to Medical Arts Hospital in Lamesa, where he later died.
Crews transported Villalobos to University Medical Center with serious injuries.
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
