Evan Boatwright, Abigail Boatwright Die after Temple Semi-Truck Accident
TEMPLE, TX (May 14, 2024) — 22-year-old Abigail Boatwright and 17-year-old Evan Boatwright died in an accident on Saturday, April 27.
According to the Temple Police Department, the accident took place on Highway 36 and Highway 317 just after 11:00 a.m. Saturday. They said it involved an oversized load weighing 350,000 pounds.
Temple Police said the distillation column fell off the back of a semi-truck and onto the victims’ vehicle occupied by three people. After that, Abigail and Evan suffered fatal injuries and died. Both were residents of Gatesville, Texas.
Temple Fire and Rescue said the column pinned the vehicle underneath for several hours.
According to the TFR Public Information Officer Santos Soto, the load was bigger than anything that their equipment could handle. In addition, he said they worked with several different agencies to remove several pieces of the column. Those agencies also helped with the recovery process of the occupants.
Police said the driver also sustained critical injuries. However, their identity was not available at this time.
According to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, the name of the company overseeing the transport of the oversized load was Southern Transport LLC.
Authorities continue to investigate the fatal accident.
