Ana Sandoval, Maria Sandoval-Cuellar Die in El Paso Military Bus Crash
EL PASO, TX (May 14, 2024) — Maria Del Carmen Sandoval-Cuellar and Ana Sandoval died in a military bus accident on Sunday, May 5.
According to the El Paso Police Department, the incident took place at the intersection of Gateway North Boulevard and State Line Road at around 6:30 p.m.
Special Traffic Investigations unit believes the military bus drove up Gateway North Boulevard. Then the SUV occupied by Sandoval-Cuellar and Sandoval went out from State Line Road. After that, it pulled out in front of the bus. That caused the military bus to crash into the SUV.
78-year-old Sandoval-Cuellar reportedly died at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics brought 50-year-old Sandoval, who drove the SUV, to the hospital. However, she died from sustained injuries. Her family made a GoFundMe to help them with the funeral expenses.
Paramedics also brought three children inside the SUV with ages ranging from 5 to 12 years old to the hospital. They received treatment for minor injuries.
On the other hand, the military bus driver was not hurt in the crash.
Police said the military bus carried 27 passengers. Responding officers brought all of them to the hospital. Twenty-six of them received treatment for superficial injuries. Meanwhile, one received treatment for a non-life-threatening injury.
The incident marks the 22nd and 23rd traffic-related fatalities in the area this 2024.
