Eric Leal Jr. Identified in Fatal Hit-and-Run on North Mesa Street in El Paso
EL PASO, TX (May 14, 2024) – The El Paso Police Department identified 23-year-old Eric Isaac Leal Jr. of El Paso who died in a hit-and-run on North Mesa Street on April 28.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at Castellano Drive around 1:52 AM. Based on a report, Leal was driving a silver 2018 Dodge Charger west on Castellano Drive before the crash.
At the same time, a black 2015 GMC Sierra was traveling northbound on North Mesa Street. Due to unknown reasons, one of the vehicles ran the red light, causing a crash. The driver of the GMC fled the scene.
As a result, Leal and his passenger, 26-year-old Devan Michael Lovelace of El Paso, suffered serious injuries in the incident. Crews transported them to a hospital, where Leal later died.
Leal’s sister set up a GoFundMe to help with the funeral expenses.
The police Special Traffic Investigations Unit continues its investigation and asks anyone with information to call the police non-emergency number at 915-832-4400).
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
