Fatal Motorcycle DUI Hit-and-Run on South Academy Boulevard in Colorado Springs

 
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (April 9, 2024) — One person died in a DUI hit-and-run on South Academy Boulevard on Tuesday, April 2.
 
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, the crash took place on South Academy Boulevard and Astrozon Boulevard at about 1:35 p.m.
 
CSPD said a motorcycle rider traveled northbound on South Academy Boulevard. Then a southbound vehicle suddenly turned in front of the motorcycle.
 
Caitlin Ford, a spokesperson with the CSPD, said the sedan turned left on El Morro Road in front of the motorcyclist and then cut them. The rider was unable to react and stop. It resulted in the motorcycle crashing into the sedan.
 
The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, the sedan took off down El Morro and drove erratically. It struck several objects along the way before it came to a stop after it smashed into a curb.
 
A witness saw the whole incident and called the authorities. Officers then responded to the area and took the driver into custody.
 
Officers believe impairment on the driver was a factor in the crash.
 
Ford said they would charge him with vehicular homicide, DUI, and felony hit-and-run.
