Blaza Carbajal Dead in Tucson Hit-and-Run on Tucson Boulevard

 
TUCSON, AZ (October 9, 2023) — A woman identified as 69-year-old Blaza Ortiz Carbajal died in a hit-and-run on Saturday, September 2.
 
According to the Tucson Police Department, the accident happened at about 8:30 p.m. on South Tucson Boulevard and East Bilby Road.
 
The TPD said a red 2007 Dodge Charger traveled eastbound on East Bilby Road. Then they failed to yield to the red traffic signal. After that, it hit a grey 2021 Nissan Rogue heading northbound on Tucson Boulevard in the median lane.
 
The Nissan subsequently hit a traffic signal pole at the intersection’s northeast corner.
 
Paramedics pronounced Carbajal, who was behind the wheel of the Nissan, dead at the scene.
 
Authorities arrested one of the occupants of the Dodge after he fled from the scene on foot. They brought him to Banner University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. His identity was not immediately released.
 
Officers said the failure to stop for a red light by the Dodge was the main contributing factor to the fatal incident.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the crash. They urge anyone with further information to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
