Bicyclist Killed, Sergio Garcia-Retana Arrested in Longview Hit-and-Run Accident
LONGVIEW, TX (October 9, 2023) – Longview Police arrested 28-year-old Sergio Garcia-Retana of Longview following a bicycle accident on East Marshall Avenue on October 1.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened in the 2300 block of the road around 1:20 AM. Based on a report, Sergio Garcia-Retana was driving a 2017 silver Chevy Silverado westbound on the road at the time of the crash.
At the same time, woman on a bicycle was riding in the same direction, ahead of him. Garcia-Retana then approached her and struck her from behind, throwing her from the bike into the grassy median. Garcia-Retana fled the scene afterward.
As a result, the woman suffered grave injuries and died in the incident.
Police arrested Garcia-Retana on charges of collision involving death, and driving while intoxicated/third or more time, a third-degree felony. His bonds total $260,000.
As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
