Officer Darrin McMichael Dead in Hit-and-Run Accident on 20 Freeway

 
DALLAS, TX (September 26, 2023) — An Arlington police officer identified as Darrin McMichael suffered fatal injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Thursday, September 21.
 
The crash took place in the westbound lanes of the 20 Freeway near St. Augustine Drive between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office said Officer McMichael traveled to work on his police motorcycle at the time.
 
Then traffic slowed down for some reason. It caused the officer to bump the car in front of him. He then fell off his motorcycle and a dark-colored Dodge or Chrysler SUV ran him over.
 
The driver of the SUV subsequently drove off. It did not stop to help, according to the sheriff’s office.
 
Officer McMichael’s wife, who also works for the Arlington Police Department, witnessed the incident as she drove behind him when it happened.
 
Authorities closed the westbound lanes of the freeway between St. Augustine Drive and Dowdy Ferry Road for multiple hours on Friday.
 
Investigators urge the public’s help to locate the SUV. Anyone with information can contact Det. Chaney at 214-589-2323. North Texas Crime Stoppers offers a $5,000 reward for information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect.
