Matthew Pierson Identified in Fatal Car Crash in San Augustine
SAN AUGUSTINE, TX (September 7, 2023) – The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office identified 25-year-old Matthew Pierson of Etoile who died in a crash on Highway 147 on August 22.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Highway 103 around 7:30 AM. Based on a report, the deputy was traveling north on Highway 147 prior to the crash.
At the same time, 54-year-old William Lyons of San Augustine was driving a Peterbilt semi-trailer west on Highway 103. Due to unknown reasons, Pierson failed to yield to Lyons and hit the trailer porting of the semi-truck.
As a result, Pierson suffered grave injuries and died at the scene.
Lyons was not hurt in the crash.
As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
