Three people were killed Saturday when a tanker truck carrying jet fuel caught fire after striking two stopped vehicles on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Worcester Township, Montgomery County. The crash occurred on I-476 between the Mid-County and Lansdale exits.

Pennsylvania State Police report that a vehicle was stopped in the right lane due to a flat tire, and another driver stopped to assist, parking behind the stranded Acura and turning on the hazard lights. The tanker truck was unable or failed to stop, slamming into the back of the second vehicle.

The truck driver and a passenger in the stopped assisting vehicle were both killed at the scene, and the driver of the stranded vehicle was later pronounced dead at the hospital. All interstate lanes were closed most of the day for crews to extinguish the fire and clear the roadway.
