Police Martyrs’ Day also known as Police Commemoration Day is observed on 21st October every year to honour all the heroes who sacrificed their life for our nation. Especially the 10 CRPF personnel who sacrificed their lives in order to protect the country from China.
Back in 1959, the Indian Reconnaissance Party, one of the three parties launched went missing from the Ladakh border. On 21st October the chinese army attacked and killed 10 brave Indian soldiers.
Police Martyrs’ Day Significance
In honour of them, in January 1960, the 21st of October was declared Police Martyrs’ Day or Police Commemoration Day. In dia, it is observed with full enthusiasm and devotion. A way to honour the soldiers who sacrificed their lives while on duty in the country.
Since then, the whole country has conducted programs where the police soldiers who shown their bravery and dedication towards the country. At the same time, prizes or medals are also given in order to motivate them and inspire others to do the same.
“The Wall of Valour” – a 30-foot-tall granite sculpture is honoured at the police memorial that consists of names of around 35,000 martyrs who sacrificed themselves in order to protect their nation. A perfect way to signify glory and valour.
On Police Martyrs’ Day, the Prime Minister, the Vice President, the President, the three Service Chiefs, the Defence Minister and the Chief of Defence Staff arrive at the samadhi at Raj Ghat memorial to pay respect to all the martyrs by offering flowers. Meanwhile, armed forces blow bugles sounding Last Post. two-minute silence in memory of Indian martyrs is organised in the country at 11 am.
