Lord Datta Jayanti is annually marked on the full moon day of Margashirsha month. Lord Dattatreya is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Brahma, and Mahesh, all three Tridevas. This year Dattatreya Jayanti is being observed on 7 December 2022, Wednesday. As per beliefs, by fasting and worshiping Lord Dattatreya, all the wishes of the devotee are fulfilled.

As per the holy Hindu scripture, Shrimad Bhagwat Gita, Lord Dattatreya was born to Maharishi Atri and Mata Anusuya. Receiving knowledge from 24 gurus, Dattatreya contains both the form and Guru of all three gods, due to which he is also called Shri Gurudev Datta and Parabrahma Murti Sadhguru. Dattatreya has three heads which are the symbol of Sat, Raj, and Tama. His six hands represent the Yamas of control, rule, equality, strength, and mercy.

There is no method to celebrate Datta Jayanti in the scriptures. Before this festival, there is a practice of reciting Gurucharitra for seven days. This is called Gurucharitra week. It is believed that by worshiping Lord Dutta and performing Havan, knowledge increases. This festival is specially celebrated in Maharashtra.
