National Education Day 2022: Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal, also known as “Nishank,” the Union Education Minister, launched the National Education Day online program just at the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay. The event was put on by IIT Bombay to honor Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first minister of education, who was born on November 11, which is also recognized as National Education Day or Rashtriya Shiksha Diwas.

The honoree at the event was Dr. K. Kasturirangan, a former chairman of ISRO and the chairman of the group responsible for designing the New Education Policy.

The contributions made by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad to education, institution-building, and nation-building are outstanding. He is the primary architect of Indian education. From 1947 to 1958, he served as India’s first vice president and as the country’s first education minister.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) stated on September 11th, 2008, that National Education Day will be observed on November 11th in honor of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s birthday and to honor his contributions to schooling. Since 2008, National Education Day has been observed annually in India without being recognized as a holiday.

Abul Kalam Ghulam Muhiyuddin, popularly known as Maulana Azad or Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, was the original name of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. He was born on November 11, 1888, in Mecca, which is today in Saudi Arabia, and passed away in New Delhi on February 22, 1958.

He was a reformer, freedom warrior, and, journalist who was dedicated to using education to strengthen the nation. He was the president of Congress in 1923 and 1940 and a prominent member of the Indian National Congress. In 1992, he received the highest civilian honor bestowed by India, the Bharat Ratna, posthumously.

To criticize the British Government’s policies and draw attention to the issues Indians were experiencing at the time, he launched the weekly journal “Al-Hilal” in 1912.

He was elected to the Constituent Assembly to help write India’s Constitution after the country gained independence and was designated as the country’s first minister of education.
