Ministry of Ayush and WHO to Co-Host First Global Summit on Traditional Medicine

The Ministry of Ayush, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), is set to organize a two-day Traditional Medicine Global Summit on17th and 18th August, 2023 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The announcement was made during a media briefing on 16th August 2023.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush highlighted the significance of the Traditional Medicine Global Summit, which will delve into the role of traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine in addressing critical health challenges while promoting global health and sustainable development. The summit aims to bring together participants from over 90 countries, including health ministers from 30 nations, distinguished academics, government officials, and prominent figures from the traditional medicine sector.

A highlight of the event is the Ayush Exhibition Zone, an immersive showcase featuring interactive kiosks that promise to offer an engaging experience for attendees.

The Secretary also noted the ongoing efforts in the field of Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy (Ayush) to establish evidence-based research in addressing various diseases, including cancer, tuberculosis, communicable diseases, and women’s and child health. He emphasized the collaborative progress made in the field of traditional medicine over the past years, particularly the establishment of the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, Gujarat, which is the first such center in a developing country.
