Noosa police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Ben Carroll says his officers are in the thick of a massive community effort to stop the spread of coronavirus. He said that included checking with entertainment venues to ensure their COVID Safe plans were up to scratch.“There’s a massive amount of work behind the scenes,” Sen Sgt Carroll said.The overall deployments of police officers across the state were huge, he said, and Noosa station had played its part.“We’re still doing patrols of the different businesses and the like and working with them around compliance.“It’s more and education role, we haven’t breached anyone, we just go and talk to them and see how they’re travelling.”He said his officers were looking at social distancing.“We’re finding the businesses have good plans in place and they’re well established, but it’s maybe when patrons are maybe lining up outside,” Sen Sgt Carroll said. Noosa police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Ben Carroll. “We’ve worked with a couple of different venues around that and they’re fixing it up.“We’re seeing that at a lot of the venues around the state are queuing up too closely, so we’re just reminding them and also the venue security to put some plans in place which they are doing,” he said. He said police also responded to calls coming in from the public about different COVID-19 compliance issues.Noosa officers are also deployed to guard hotels as part of quarantine down at Kawana.“We had officers up in Cape York,” he said.“We’ve got officers meeting all the aircraft, we’ve got officers going to Brisbane to do quarantine management.“There’s 1000 people in motels across the state, so it’s all having an impact.”He is also headed to the district operations centre in Brisbane later this month to help keep “the manpower ticking over”.“We have an operations centre set up that just commands the Sunshine Coast district just for COVID,” he said.“They do all the logistics … the planes are coming in on these dates, so we’ve got to liaise with the airlines, we need to find officers to go there.“People are actually being turned away.“For us there’s only a few planes coming in, but you can imagine Brisbane there’s thousands of people moving around, so it’s pretty full on.”
