Steps to overcome car (motion) sickness

Car Sickness is the most frequently occurring problem; especially for those who drive long distances.  There is a scientific rational to this which is quite hilarious but has been the proven root cause behind it. Whilst you are in Motion, the inner ear sends a signal to the brain stating that the body is in motion; something that is strongly contradicted by the signals sent by eye which states that body is motionless. These conflicting signals are received by the brain at the same time which eventually bamboozles the same. Even though there are no ways to completely eviscerate car (motion) sickness, we have some ways to mitigate the obnoxious effects of the same.

Lets’ look over those!!

  • Make fresh air available!

Fresh air alleviates the unpleasant effect of Motion Sickness. If you are in an SUV with SUV all weather tires, these symptoms can easily be mitigated simply by opening a window or vent the unpleasant air out.  If symptoms continue, stop the car and get out to breathe in some fresh air.  Sometimes a turned-off air-conditioner has a bearing on the sickness symptoms. In warm weather, turn on your air conditioning system but by the time it gets cooler by twilight, turn it off.

  • Obstruct your view!

Often, the motion outside the car is reprehensible for car motion sickness. If that is the case, just block the view.  You can also use special motion-blocking eyewear to get your purpose solved.

  • If you are not a driver of a car that is in for a long drive with all weather tires, close your eyes and try falling asleep for a few minutes.
  • Try sunglasses or sleep masks to obstruct your view enough to eliminate the symptoms of car/motion sickness.
  • Motion sickness is also attributed to dry eyes or tiresome eyes. Splash some cold water if available on your face or use eye drops. If you are putting on contact lenses or glasses, take them off for sometime if you are not a driver.

Always keep some ginger made projects!

Scientifically ginger is a recommended remedy to combat symptoms of car motion. Try chewing ginger ale, ginger cookies, and many other ginger products. If you are prone to motion sickness, it is advisable to have some ginger products handy so that you keep the possibility of going out of sorts at bay.

  • Eat dry items!

Motion sickness is the resultant of acid accumulation in the stomach. Eating dry food like soda crackers etc…may soak up this excess acid in the stomach which eventually mitigates the symptoms of motion sickness.

  • Try some acupressure!

Apply pressure by pressing a particular part of the body and you will see the effect of the symptoms reducing. In specific, Nei Guan—acupressure point P6, on the underside of the wrist— can be pressed to help with an upset stomach.

You can also apply pressure on the mid-point of your wrist.  There is a small ‘valley’ or ‘funnel’where you can feel your vein like tendons. Press the area for a period of 15 seconds and the effect is likely to generate the much-needed relief and relaxation.

If you are wearing wristwatch or wristband, create a pressure band to help with motion sickness. Prepare a small wad or paper or paper-like substance (like a gum wrapper) which is probably about the size of a pea or pen needle. Wedge this in the wristband for 15 seconds and feel the relaxation!
