  1. Always rent a smaller car and rent it only when required. This will help you tackle traffic, parking and rent problems. Also travel by train between some cities well and explore then on foot.
  2. Always observe the speed limit at ZTL (restricted traffic zone) in cities. It will be marked in red hollow circle with white background. You or your rental agency (which they will eventually charge you) might have to pay hefty penalty for violating no entry in restricted area rule.
  3. Make the best use of GPS system. This system is like savior for finding places, parking lots, guiding you through tunnel darkness etc. so trust this completely for your safety.
  4. Ensure your rented car insurance and other documents are up to date. The wheel policies in many European countries as per season are very strict. Find out for the same and ensure before taking charge of your rented vehicle. Whether the car or SUV winter tires or studded tires are fixed as per season and traffic laws. Also make sure you carry a license that makes you valid driver in Italy.
  5. The car rental agencies may charge you extra if there is more than one driver in the rented car and if that person would drive. So, mention about number of drivers while booking the vehicle. In case the additional driver doesn’t fall between 25 to 71 age limit one needs to pay extra.
  6. Calculate small amounts that keep pouring in like gas refilling, tolls etc apart from rental charges. These small amounts take greater form due to consistent occurrences on the way.
