Two Asian Countries to protect their planes with Music by Elbit

Elbit’s Music system protects planes from Hand-Held AA missiles

Two prominent Asian Countries buy the Music Dircm Civilian/transport Plane defense against hand-held Surface-to-Air missiles (stinger and etc.).

The System, an aerial Trophy APS of sorts, protects large planes by diverting missiles away from the plane with laser. Specifically, the laser hits the missiles homing device confusing and diverting it away from the plane. The system is in an external pod covered by a glass dome on the belly of the plane. It’s a complete plug N’ Play A-Z solution that can easily be added and integrated. The system is open architecture and doesn’t require any extra software or other changes to the plane for the integration. Nor does it need any special personal on the plane to operate it. It’s completely autonomous and automatically detects and diverts the threat away once fired.

However, the system reportedly DOES not have the ability to intercept and divert large surface to air missiles (Patriot, Buk and etc.). The system has varients for all size planes and even helicopters

Elbit developed the system since early 2000s, although the big watershed moment was in 2003 when terrorists in Kenya, tried to down an Israeli Arkia plane. The Firedin the outer perimeters of the Mombasa Kenya airport a handheld missile but luckily missed. That is when it shot up in priority for Israel’s defense establishment and became a major part of Israels MOD’s Sky Shield program (“Magen Rakia”) to protect its planes.

Elad Aharonson, VP of Elbit Systems ISTAR Division, said: “I believe that the recent string of contract awards, by a range of customers, to provide our mature DIRCM systems is a strong testament to the leading position we hold in this area.
