She is 27, Young, beautiful and intelligent, she is Jayathma Wickramanayake currently serves as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth.
Prior to taking her role as the Envoy, Wickramanayake led Youth development efforts both on an international and national level in her home country, Sri Lanka. In this regard, she co-founded the youth organization Hashtag Generation, aimed at increasing the civic and political engagement of Sri Lankan young people, particularly young women.
As the Envoy on Youth, Ms. Jayathma Wickramanayake plays a key role in spearheading the UN’s efforts to expand its work in addressing the needs and rights of young people, including by bringing the work of the United Nations closer to them.
In domesticating these core objectives, the Youth Envoy would be in Nigeria come today thursday, the 8th of February, 2018to engage government and the youth population on critical issues that affect young people. These are: female genital mutilation (FGM), youth participation and empowerment, comprehensive sexuality education (CSE), ending child marriage, gender-based violence (GBV) and adolescent sexual and reproductive health.

Additionally, the Youth Envoy will have the opportunity to engage through bilateral meetings as well as high level events, with: high level government officials, youth groups and youth leaders, bilateral and multilateral development partners, the UN country teams and civil society through bilateral meetings and during a series of high level events hosted by UNFPA in conjunction with other UN entities and partners.
