Deforestation in India is rising at alarming levels and is a key contributor to climate change, the effects of which are now increasingly visible in the country.

Deforestation is a reality that one cannot deny. However there are a number of efforts that can help undo some of the damage.
Animal agriculture is a leading cause of deforestation, habitat destruction, wildlife loss, species extinction, freshwater use, land use, climate breakdown, water pollution, and air pollution. Recognising the severity of the impact of this industry on the planet, Earthshot Prize council member Sir David Attenborough has already urged the public: “We must change our diet. The planet can’t support billions of meat-eaters.”

The Global Seedball Campaign by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, organized under the banner of the C20 Working Group on Sustainable and Resilient Communities (SRC) – Climate, Environment and Net Zero Targets, has reached the significant milestone of producing more than 1.3 million seedballs globally since its launch in April this year. The objective of the initiative is to promote environmental sustainability and restoration of ecosystems by producing and distributing over a million seedballs by the end of this year.
