An integral part of India’s cultural history, Handlooms are seeing a revival of sorts in the new age and museums are doing a great job of showcasing this rich heritage.
National Handloom Day is celebrated on August 7th and while the handlooms need to be celebrated every day, here are some of the country’s best museums that celebrate these traditional textiles.

- Vimor Museum of Living Textiles, Bengaluru
- National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum, Delhi
- Kasthuri Sreenivasan Art Gallery & Textile Museum, Coimbatore
- The Calico Museum of Textiles
- Registry of Sarees, Bengaluru
Developed by the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India the Deendayal Hastkala Sankul Varanasi aims to support the Handloom and Handicraft sector of Varanasi by providing a platform for trade enhancement. At the Tana Bana and Handloom Gallery, you can see 41 varieties of weaving methods in handlooms. The Carpet Gallery showcases the history of carpets in India, making techniques and more. The idea behind the center is to facilitate weavers, artisans and exporters to promote handlooms.
