Maya – Movement for Alternatives and Youth Awareness

Empowering Society

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has” ~ Margaret Mead, Anthropologist

If you thought this was just a quote, think again. A Karnataka-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) working for over 25 years in the space of social transformation, Maya – Movement for Alternatives and Youth Awareness has just proved this through initiated programmes in the field of education and livelihood. Over the years, MAYA has developed them into social enterprises for impact and to reach scale. “We began our journey by driving change in systemic issues of education, livelihoods. Of our programs, three have become independent organisations known as Prajayatna, Maya Organic and Labournet all of which have substantial impact on the ground as NGOs/ Social Enterprises,” says Alex Rodrigues, CEO. MAYA is now driving a health initiative that focuses on promoting preventive healthcare amongst urban and rural poor known as the MAYAHealth Initiative. “Our mission at MAYA is “Working to create an empowered and equitable society that systematically addresses livelihood, education and health,” adds Alex.

If that piqued your interest here is my story on the wonderful work being done by this NGO: Maya.
